When you create a vinyl record on Dubplate.be, you automatically see how many minutes are available per side. Still, we regularly get the question: how many songs actually fit on a vinyl record?
The answer is simple: with vinyl it is not about the number of songs, but about the total playback time per side.
A short song of two minutes naturally takes up much less space than a track of eight minutes. That is why we always look at the total number of minutes rather than the number of tracks.
How many minutes fit on a vinyl record?
The available playback time depends on the size of the record.
As a general guideline:
| Format | Maximum playback time |
|---|---|
| 7 inch vinyl | 6 minutes per side |
| 10 inch vinyl | 12 minutes per side |
| 12 inch vinyl | 20 minutes per side |
During the ordering process, our system automatically calculates how much music you can add. This ensures that your record stays within the technical limits of the selected format.
Why is there a limit on the number of minutes?
Music is stored on vinyl in tiny grooves that are cut into the record. The more playback time you want to add, the more grooves are needed.
Because a vinyl record has a limited surface area, there is a maximum number of minutes that can fit on a disc. That is why we apply fixed limits per format. Our ordering system automatically takes this into account.
This ensures a high-quality final result and means you do not have to make any technical calculations yourself.
How do you choose the right music?
Many customers choose music that has personal meaning. Think of a first dance, a favorite playlist, a collection of songs from student years, or tracks that remind you of a special event.
Want to create a vinyl record with your own music? We recommend checking the total playback time of your selected tracks in advance. This way you can immediately see which format best fits your project.
A personalized vinyl record as a gift
A vinyl record remains one of the most original gifts you can give. Whether it is a wedding, anniversary, or birthday vinyl gift, a record with carefully chosen music is always personal.
More and more customers choose to create a personalized record with songs that tell a story. The combination of music, a custom design, and a unique sleeve creates a lasting memory.
